Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

National CPD Programme

The programme aims to support the implementation of hte high level targets within the overall PE, Sport Strategy, and Young people strategey outlined by the DCSF. The programme is designed to provide a toll for the Local Authority and PESSYP infrastructure of Secialist Sports Colleges and School Sports Partnerships to meet their aims in delivering the five hour offer.

Primary Link Teacher (PLT) Funding

Each primary school within the Partnership has an entitlement of 12 days ‘PLT Funding’ to release a designated teacher or Primary Link Teacher (PLT) from timetable to attend training courses or to work on the development of PE and School Sport, either in the curriculum or as part of the ‘Out of School Hours Learning’ (OSHL) programme.

Other teachers are encouraged to benefit from the release time and funding. It is not intended to create a specialist PE teacher who would leave the school back at the beginning should he or she move on, although part of the Subject Leader’s role is to disseminate training information.

The major outcome for teaching staff is increased competence and confidence in their facilitation of teaching and learning in PE.

Teacher Development Workshops

The School Sport Partnership and Norfolk County Council organise a comprehensive range of teacher development workshops for both primary and secondary school teachers. The programme includes a number of compulsory core theory topics such as "How to identify and develop gifted and talented young people", "How to complete your PE Audit" and also a number of additional practical sessions such as "How to teach Yoga in schools", "Key Stage 1 and 2 Athletics" and "Key stage 1 and 2 Dance".
