yoUR Leaders is a KS 3 student –centred curriculum model, based on SPORT EDUCATION principles, within which pupils learn to plan, manage and run their own sports ‘season’ as part of the PE programme. This is achieved by creating a student- centred learning environment where the teacher’s role gradually becomes one of a facilitator rather than a director of activity, supporting students to take on roles such as coach, leader, official, administrator and manager as well as performer. yoUR leaders supports the three aims of the secondary curriculum. In addition, it has the potential to develop personal, learning and thinking skills.
The training is designed to help:
1. Understand how yoUR Leaders and how it fits into the Step Into Sport pathway
2. Recognise how this programme supports the secondary NC2007 and the Five Hour Offer
3. To be able to identify the benefits for young people in using this approach in lessons
4. Who will be responsible for the delivery of yoUR Leaders
5. Development of an action plan to introduce and develop yoUR Leaders in school
6. Know where to go for additional support to embed yoUR Leaders at a local level
