South Norfolk will be hosting an Olympic Cultural and Sporting Festival week in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics. South Norfolk is a particularly rural part of the County and transport difficulties make it more of a challenge for schools to work together and offer students wider opportunities. This initiative will seek to overcome some of these obstacles and extend the Olympic vision to the 7 high schools and 58 primary schools in the South Norfolk School Sport Partnesrship.
There will be three Primary School cultural competitions (Olympic Design, Verse & Voice) open to every pupil in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and two whole days of sporting events and activities on the 9th & 10th July 2012 hosted at the University of East Anglia Sportspark for years 1, 2, 3, & 4.
The vision of this programme is that it should be open to all to participate in whichever way is appropriate to the school and the individual. While it is anticipated that all primary and secondary schools will take part in some activities appropriate to their interests and year group, such as the Olympic Truce assemblies and promoting the Get Set Network and activities. The secondary schools will provide leadership support through the judging of the primary school cultural competitions (detailed on the attached document) and provide support and sport leadership at the Olympic Sports Festival event. All participation will be recognised through an Olympics Festival Certificate designed by one of our pupils and a panel of judges will award prizes for the most outstanding submissions from the Cultural Festival activities.
