Friday March 23rd saw Wymondham Leisure Cente host the Level 2 South Norfolk School Games Aquathlon (Swim and Run) competition. The competition saw a change of format from previous years to the new ‘RELAY’ format which is currently used in the International Junior Olympics with a similar event being introduced into the 2016 Olympics.
Each High School had the opportunity to enter a year 7 & 8 (U13) team of 2 girls and 2 boys and a year 9 & 10 (U15) team of 2 girls and 2 boys. Five schools entered from the partnership Framingham Earl, Diss, Long Stratton Wymondham College and Wymondham High and it really was a competitive, tough and exciting morning.
Simon Edwards and his team from tri-a-sport who are experts at running similiar events set up the competition and course and hosted a well organised competition - please see below final results:
Under 13's (Years 7/8) - 150 metre swim and 1500 metre run x 4
1st - Framingham Earl - Swim 7:42/ Run 24:54 - Total 32:36
2nd - Wymondham College - Swim 9:35/ Run 23:44 - Total 33:19
3rd - Wymondham High A -Swim 9:54/ Run 26:32 - Total 36:26
4th - Wymondham High B - Swim 10:48/ Run 25:54 - Total 36:42
5th - Diss High - Swim 11:06/ Run 27:43 - Total 38:49
6th - Long Stratton High - Swim 11:43/ Run 30:49 - Total 42:32
Under 15's (Years 9/10) - 200 metre swim and 2000 metre run x 4
1st - Wymondham College - Swim 10:52/ Run 32:10 - Total 43:02
2nd - Wymondham High A -Swim 11:06/ Run 33:19 - Total 44:25
3rd - Wymondham High B - Swim 13:47/ Run 35:03 - Total 48:50
4th - Long Stratton High - Swim 13:23/ Run 37:06 - Total 50:29
5th - Framingham Earl - Swim 17:44/ Run 34:10 - Total 51:54
6th - Diss High - Swim 15:21/ Run 37:00 - Total 52:21
As the results show this was a close competition with some teams excelling in the swim others in the run and some a combination of both!
Congratulations to Framingham Earl and Wymondham College who will now go on to represent South Norfolk at the Norfolk School Games finals in June.
