Outdoor Basketball Arena

INVITATION TO SUBMIT EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Outdoor Basketball Initiative is seeking a suitable partner to establish an outdoor basketball arena. The facility will provide a basketball court in aprestigious setting, easily accessible by the general public and able to accommodate a significant number (circa 500) of spectators.

When the court is not in use for special events, it should be made available for recreational basketball without charge. The Arena could also be used from time to time for other sports events.

The specifications for the arena include the following:

A regulation sized basketball playing area and backboards required.

A suitable dedicated area, to enable control of access for events when basketball

A floor surface suitable for high performance play including wheelchair terraces.

Spectator accommodation, which is envisaged to be in the form of stepped significant number of visitors or passers-by.

Ideally, the arena should be sited in a location that frequently attracts a

Suitable floodlighting or other illumination, to enable evening or night-time use.

 

The Outdoor Basketball Initiative will grant aid the hosts up to 75% ofapproved capital costs associated with the establishment of the arena, upto a maximum of £50,000. This does not include any costs that may be associated with the acquisition of land, which is the sole responsibility of the host partner. There is a possibility of some additional funding for special requirements in exceptional cases.

 

In addition, the NBA will also provide a range of product and promotional support to the successful host based upon location, the events and activities at the arena, and in line with its Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA programme.

The Arena could be a new facility or an upgrade of an existing OBI court. The Hosts (eg. a Localorganisation) are required to commit to the following conditions:

Authority, an Accredited Basketball Club or a private sector

Securing or providing the land on which the arena will be sited

Taking all responsibility for the ownership of the project

Securing the use of the arena and all its fixtures and fittings at all times the use of the arena

Providing adequate insurance cover against all third party claims arising from minimum ten years

Ensuring that the arena is properly maintained in full working order for a

Basketball or its partners, on at least 20 days each year

Undertaking to make the arena available, without charge, for use by England

In addition to the cash contribution being made by the OBI, the NBA is also

committing product and promotional support.

Expressions of interest, without prejudice, should be submitted in writing

Running an approved basketball development programme at the arenaby 20th November 2009.
