There was plenty of slam dunking at the UEA on Tuesday 30th November as Diss, Archbishop Sancroft, Hobart, Framingham Earl and Old Buckenham High Schools came together for the South Norfolk U16 Boys Basketball Competition.
After a slight technical glitch with the electronic scoring the competition got underway via a round robin. With a number of clubs based within in the partnership, no one was sure which team were going through to the county final. Old Buckenham and Hobart started strong with a 20-2 victory over Diss and 32-6 Victory over Framingham Earl respectively. Team managers were feeling the tension in a closely contested match between Archbishop Sancroft and Diss, the later edging to a 12-8 victory.
With Court 1 finishing slightly before Court 2, everyone went over to watch the tournament deciding game between Hobart and Old Buckenham. Congratulations must go to Hobart high school who won all their fixtures and go through to represent South Norfolk.
Kay Turner, Basketball Representative for schools in Norfolk said, ‘’
I’m so pleased we have this competition for children in Norfolk. Going round schools, there is so much demand and interest in competitions for Boys Basketball and its great we are providing for them.’’
Stuart Brunton-Douglas, Competition Manager added,
’I would like to thank our volunteer referees. They play such a key role in ensuring a fair and organised competition and we could not run this without them.’
