South Norfolk School Sports Partnership, Step into Sport, Leadership Academy was held at the UEA Sportspark on Friday 26th February. The feedback comments from both tutors and students were very positive.
The Leadership Academy provided the opportunity for over 120 young people from South Norfolk schools to gain National Governing Body Leadership qualifications and various generic leadership skills.
Governing body awards included:
Tennis
Rounders
Hockey-Quicksticks
Football
Basketball
It is now expected, with help and guidance of SSCO’s that these students will support and deliver high quality sessions within the cluster Primary Schools, High School and local community sports clubs.
Some students were also trained up as Young Ambassadors to deliver the 2012 Olympic themes back in their schools.
Programmes like this help to assist with the delivery of the PESSYP Strategy, often referred to as the 5 Hour Offer. By 2011 the ambition outlined in the Strategy is to offer all children at least 5 hours of sport every week.
I closed the Leadership Academy by telling the young people they are the ones who can massively support this strategy in South Norfolk and with their enthusiasm and experience gained from the day I really hope they will!
