KS 1 Picnic Sports day
In aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
Over 300 five year olds from the Diss Family cluster primary schools enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at Diss High School on Thursday. The afternoon started with a picnic lunch followed by ten challenging activities focussing on agility, balance and coordination, using a variety of equipment. Pupils had an exciting time trying to balance on wobble cushions, run in and out ladders, try to throw bean bags, balls into hoops, use water pistols to knock over skittles (although most pupils thought that it was more fun aiming the water pistols at the sports leaders), use fishing nets to get balls from a paddling pool, crawling through tunnels, playing mini dodge ball and tag games.
The afternoon was organised by Community Sports Leaders (CSLs) from Diss High School who decided to set up the event as a fund raiser for two charities; Teenage Cancer Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity as well as having a fun afternoon of games for the young people. The CSLs devised all of the activities, planned the format of the afternoon and arranged for other leaders to assist in the delivery of the prepared activities. It was an outstanding success and thanks go to Sarah McGahan, Charlotte Catalano, Sarah Woods, Hayley Peverley, Kim Harper-Collins, Lottie Campbell, Aimee Pinnell, Bethany Alexander, Hannah Archibald.
A special thank you must go to Mrs Somers who is the teacher responsible for delivering a number of leadership courses. Through her guidance and the support of the high school, the sports leaders are able to develop their leadership skills enabling them to provide high quality events at Diss High school and within the local community.
A total amount of money raised will be published at a later date but congratulations must go to Katie Harold from Diss Infants who raised £137.
