Do Your School Have the Best TA in Norfolk?

Teaching Assistants impacting on High Quality PE Award

Last year Norfolk County Council launched a special award to recognise the significant impact that Teaching Assistants (TA's) who have completed the Norfolk PE Teaching Competence programme (NPETCS) are having in our schools.

The award was based on headteachers and staff nominating their trained TA for the excellent work they are doing to deliver High Quality PE. The award was well received with over 70 individuals nominated by their schools.

The Council have again written to schools again this year to seek a winner for 2010-2011. Have you got a trained TA who is making a huge impact on standards, whole school engagement, participation levels in PE and school sport, leading the subject, helped you achieve the High Quality PE Chartermark?

If so perhaps you could look at the nomination process and put your staff member forward. It is straight forward and only requires bullet points in the first instance. Headteachers of short-listed candidates will be contacted for a more formal chat about the individuals work at their school.

Last year’s winner received a trophy, plaque and full set of Norfolk PE sports kit to really look the part. They also receive free access to any additional training course(s) from the Council calendar. You can see information on last year’s winner, Paula Grey, from Mundesley First School on the NCC website under NPETCS.

To download the nomination form click on the link below. All last years nominees received a letter and certificate to show that they had been nominated. The runners-up and winner will be invited to a special celebration event at County Hall in February 2011.

All nominations must be received by December 31st 2010.

Headteachers may wish to consider such areas as:

  • Quality of Teaching and Learning
  • Planning and organising PE in the school (possible role as Subject Leader)
  • Involvement with whole school issues
  • Involvement with supporting and enhancing the out-of-hours provision
  • Increasing the profile, engagement and uptake of PE and sport within the school
  • Rapport with young people, inspiring, motivating acting as a positive role model

We hope that you will feel that you can nominate your NPETCS trained staff for this award and we look forward to receiving your nomination. Should you have any further queries or questions about this award then please contact Martin Radmore on 01603 697001 or martin.radmore@norfolk.gov.uk
