PE and Sport Premium

Purpose of funding:

Schools must spend the funding on additional and sustainable improvements to their provision of PE and sport. They will have the freedom to choose how they do this but must use the funding to encourage the development of healthy and active lifestyles.

Vision:

All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school
  2. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport

Evidencing the Impact – Website Reporting Template

Newly revised templates are available to support schools with the reporting of their Primary PE & Sport Premium funding.

Schools should publish on their website the amount of Primary PE and Sport Premium received; a full breakdown of how it has been spent (or will be spent); what impact the school has seen on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment and how the improvements will be sustainable in the future. Schools should also consider how their use of the Primary PE and Sport Premium is giving pupils the opportunity to develop a healthy, active lifestyle.
