Year 4-6 Basketball

On Wednesday 2nd February, we delivered the year 4-6 Basketball Event at Framingham Earl High School. This competition was an a COMPETE EVENT for pupils who are competitive in nature and enjoy performing and competing against others. Players/ teams that displayed the Teamwork School Games Values and fair play were celebrated alongside the results.

Eight different schools (10 teams) attended the event. The schools that attended the event were;

  • Tacolneston Primary
  • Morley Primary
  • Wreningham Primary
  • Wicklewood Primary
  • Pulham Primary
  • Trowse Primary
  • Stoke Holy Cross Primary
  • Poringland Primary

All the games were played 4v4 format (allowing a squad of 8 players) and lasted 7mintues. Each game was scored and refereed by sports leaders from Framingham Earl High School. Massive well done to the leaders who officiated brilliantly and encouraged throughout. In addition to this, a huge thanks to Kay Turner (Basketball coach and FEHS SSCO) for running the tournament and providing a community exit route.

The competition was run in 2 groups in a round robin format. Points were awarded based on the results and after all the games were played, the points were calculated to provide an overall position for each school. The top two teams from each group then took part in a final match which was played on a full-size court. The atmosphere was electric with lots of skills on display. Poringland were the eventual winners scoring two baskets to win the closely contested final against Wreningham Rockets.

Overall, it was great afternoon of Basketball with great performances from all the schools and teams that were involved. For most pupils this was their first time representing their school in a sports event. All the girls and boys were engaged, active and improved across the competition. As a result of today, we encourage schools to provide the pupils the opportunity to develop further by putting on clubs after school, lunchtime and before school as well as encourage them to join a local community basketball club.
