Cross Country Splash

There was an amazing turnout as over 550 children from South Norfolk schools took part in the South Norfolk SSP Year 3-6 Cross Country competition which was held at Langley School on the 1st November. The event involved an incredible 25 schools with teams varying in size up to 24 runners.

There were eight separate races, Year 3,4,5, and 6 Girls and Year 3,4,5, and 6 Boys with runners completing 1000metres up to 1600metres over a challenging one lap course. Each race was hotly contested with runners keen to do their best for their school team in pursuit of the School Team Winners trophy for 2023-2024. The top 2 placed runners in each school team scored for their team but individuals could also compete for one of the top three medal winning positions in each race.

The atmosphere was buzzing as all the runners were cheered on around the course by fellow pupils and staff who had come to spectate!

The overall team title was an extremely close competition with only 30 points separating the top 3 placed schools. It was the team from Poringland that claimed the title of South Norfolk champions 2023-24.

The overall team results were as follows:

1.Poringland

2. Robert Kett

3.Ashleigh

Congratulations to the top 10 pupils in each race who will now go forward to represent South Norfolk at the Norfolk School Games Cross Country on the 22nd November at High Lodge. Enthusiastic pupils may wish to enter the Norfolk Athletics Cross Country Championships, to be held on the Sunday 7th January at Earlham Park in Norwich. Thanks must go to the sports leaders from Hobart High School and Langley School, who did an excellent job in marshalling the course, organising the finish, and compiling the results.
