Football in the sunshine

On Tuesday 18th October saw girls from year 7-8 from 6 South Norfolk SSP secondary schools come together to take part in our first of three-football development evenings at Long Stratton Leisure Centre.

A short briefing regarding the rules, format of the day and most importantly our Spirit of the Games campaign. All teams were ready and eager to go from the outset and it was clear that all teams were well prepared, organised on the pitch and confident.

The tournament was split into year 7 and year 8 round robins with all teams having the chance to battle it out against all other school teams. All the players were amazing with some great talent and skills on display. The girls will now go back to their school and continue practising ready for the next evening. The winning team will be announced after all 3 evenings have taken place.

Spirit of the Games Campaign:

This year’s competition intent is to foster social connections and develop physical skills. Our aim was to change the focus of the competition and empower young people to develop their understanding of the School Games Values. All teams were tasked with reviewing their opponents on the School Games Values RESPECT. Certificates were also awarded to players by their teachers for demonstrating RESPECT.

Congratulations to all players who participated in the event, coaches and teachers who helped make it such a fun afternoon for all involved. Special thanks to Long Stratton Leisure Centre for the use of their pitches and facilities. A massive thank you to the leaders from Long Stratton High School for refereeing and scoring.
