Secondary Girls Football #Letgirlsplay

On Thursday 23rd February saw girls from year 7-8 from 5 South Norfolk SSP secondary schools battle it out at Long Stratton Leisure Centre in our secondary girls football tournament.

A short briefing regarding the rules, format of the day and most importantly our Spirit of the Games campaign. All teams were ready and eager to go from the outset and it was clear that all teams were well prepared, organised on the pitch and confident.

The tournament consisted of a year 7 and year 8 round robin. The matches were closely contested with Long Stratton High School victorious in the year 7 age group and Wymondham High Academy winning the year 8 competition.

The event intent was to foster social connections and develop physical skills and our aim was to change the focus of the competition and empower young people to develop their understanding of the School Games Values. All teams were tasked with reviewing their opponents on the Spirit of the Games Values Self Belief. The winners of the most Spirited Team of the Day was Wymondham College year 7 and Framingham Earl year 8.

Congratulations to all players who participated in the tournament, coaches and teachers who helped make the event go so well and a fun afternoon for all involved.

Special thanks to Long Stratton Leisure Centre for the use of their pitches and facilities. A massive thank you to the leaders from Long Stratton High School for refereeing.
