Disney Inspired Shooting Stars Festival

On Thursday 5th October seventeen South Norfolk schools took part in the #Letgirlsplay Disney inspired shooting stars festival at Long Stratton Leisure Centre. After an incredible couple of summers which saw England become European Champions and World Cup runners up what better time to #Letgirlsplay and help inspire the next generation.

The sessions took inspiration from well-known Disney stories which are engaging and familiar to the girls. They were asked to come dressed in Disney themed outfits and then rotated around 8 different multi skills/ football activities. Stations included the Incredibles dribbling challenge, Aladdin’s Magic Carpet, Lion King finding pride rock, Frozen Olaf says, Timon and Pumbaa bug hunt, Toy Story Hamm in the middle passing challenge and Scarlet Witches Energy Blast challenge.

Although the day was based around the element of football, the festival was also about helping the girls gain confidence, learn respect, build on teamwork and communication skills as well as having lots of fun. We saw over 200 girls taking part and it is hoped that some of them will continue to play back in school and some may even want to join their local Weetabix Wildcat sessions or join a local girls club.

Staff and Pupils Feedback from today’s event:

“Fun, engaging and all the children participated well”.

“Young leaders were patient, encouraging and engaging to pupils”.

“Great opportunity to try football”.

“It was really, really fun”.

“I loved running with the ball”.

A big thank you to Long Stratton High School for letting us host the festival and providing 21 amazing leaders for the day. They all did an excellent job and really grew in confidence as the day progressed.

If your school has enjoyed today’s session and would like to find out more information please ensure you register on the www.girlsfootballinschools.org website, where you can sign up to the Disney shooting stars training and find out about more opportunities for football in your school.
