In the Loop- National School Sport Week 2010

National School Sports Week 2010

The Youth Sport Trust would like to confirm that the date for Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week has been changed to 28 June – 2 July 2010 – a decision that will ensure as many young people as possible can take part in sporting activities across the week.

Following feedback from schools and other partners it became clear 28th June – 2nd July 2010 is the most appropriate week in the summer timetable to ensure that any potential clashes in the school curriculum around exams, work placements or other end of year activities are kept to an absolute minimum.

Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week 2010 aims to use the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire more young people to take part in and understand the value of sport. Schools that are planning a focus on sport during a different week, are encouraged to register and use the ideas and resources.

In 2009 more than 10,000 schools and 3 million children took part in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.

Schools organised their own Opening and Closing Ceremonies, torch relays, inter and intra school competitions and encouraged pupils to make Sports Pledges to take part in more sport and to try something new.

Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust said: “Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week 2009 demonstrated how the excitement and passion for the Olympic and Paralympic Games can be a powerful driver to increase participation for young people.  It was a tremendous week and we’re extremely excited about building on this even further in 2010.”

During the week Youth Sport Trust School Sport Ambassadors visited schools across the country to inspire the pupils further and witness first hand some of the exciting and innovative activities that had been planned by schools
