SNSSP Girls Football 2019

On Tuesday 15th October, South Norfolk School Sport Partnership held their first competition of the year Girls Football. The event took place at Goals, Norwich with 25 teams from 13 different schools and over 200 girls taking part.

The event was split into a year 3 and 4 competition and a year 5 and 6 competition. All teams were placed into a group of 6/ 7 schools and played in a round robin competition. All of the matches throughout the day were competitive, skilful and closely contested games. Following the group stage each team participated in a playoff match to decide their overall finishing position.

The year 3 and 4 event was won by Robert Kett with Loddon Junior narrowly missing out by 1 goal in extra time. The year 5 and 6 event was won by Trowse and Ellingham were runners up. Both of the finals were highly competitive and exciting to watch. These four teams will now go on to represent South Norfolk SSP at the Norfolk School Games in February.

Throughout the tournament teachers/ staff members were asked to nominate girls who had shown great sportsmanship and demonstrated one of the School Games values (Honesty, Respect, Determination, Self-Belief, Passion and Teamwork). All girls who had been awarded one of our sportsmanship stickers was asked to stand up at the end of the event so that all pupils could be celebrated for the great job they had done during the day in supporting and helping their teams succeed.

A big thank you must go to Goals, Norwich for letting us host our event. Another thank you must go to the amazing sports leaders from Easton College. These leaders were brilliant referees and excellent scorers. They all did a superb job.

If any girls are interested in continuing to play football outside of school please visit Norfolk FA. The Wildcats training sessions offer girls aged 5-11 regular opportunities to play football and take part in fun and engaging activities created just for girls. Across Norfolk there are 25 Wildcat centres.

Well done to all girls who took part in the competition.
