Footballing Fun!

Inspired by the success of the lionesses this summer girl’s football has seen a real growth in popularity in secondary schools this autumn term with more girls that ever, attending weekly extracurricular clubs.

To meet the demand for more opportunities for girls to play football in schools South Norfolk SSP recently organised a year 7-8 #LetGirlsPLay football event which was hosted at Long Stratton Leisure Centre and involved teams from Framingham Earl High School, Wymondham High School, Hobart High School and Long Stratton High School.

The event was aimed at girls new to football or those who perhaps don’t normally get the chance to play in the school team. The focus was on providing the girls with lots of game play in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment against teams of a similar standard and hopefully inspiring them to continue playing the sport in the future.

Results:

  1. Wymondham High Academy Team 2
  2. Long Stratton High Team 1
  3. Wymondham High Academy Team 1

  5. Framingham Earl Team 1
  6. Hobart High School

Massive thanks to the referees from long Stratton high school who helped run the event.

The next girls football event is Year 9/10 at Long Stratton Leisure Centre on 16th November.

South Norfolk School Sport Partnership is part of a nationwide scheme that aims to provide opportunities in school for girls with the vision to ensure every girl has equal access to football in school by 2024.
