Confidence grows at Spirit of the Games Event

On Thursday 29th February South Norfolk School Sport Partnership hosted its second Spirit of the Games Festival at the UEA, Sportspark which involved year 5/6 pupils from 15 different primary schools.

Around 400 pupils took part in the event which was focussed on providing a new opportunity and experience to inspire pupils to participate and enjoy sport together in inclusive activities. The event also had a focus on inspiring pupils about the School Games Values and challenge young people to achieve their personal best. All the pupils learnt some brilliant new skills whilst also understanding how important it is to be inclusive so that EVERYONE can enjoy sport together.

During the event pupils got to take part in a number of different activities which they might not have tried before these included:

  • Archery
  • Seated volleyball
  • Boccia
  • New Age Kurling
  • Basketball
  • Mini Golf
  • Rowing

Local delivery partners Hoopstars, Putterfingers Golf, Premier Education, East Anglia Youth Rowing, and leaders from Wymondham High Academy led the activities and supported the pupils throughout making sure they had a fun action-packed day.

Laura Goodswen, organiser of the event said, “The focus was very much on providing a fun and enjoyable event for the children, giving them a chance to try out some new sports and activities whilst giving them confidence to try new things.”

One member of staff commented on how “the event was such a positive experience for all the children, it was great to see them all engaged in the activities”.

Another teacher commented, “What an amazing experience it was for all the children involved”.

A lot of the pupils also said how they felt more confident to try new things following the event and how they loved trying the different activities.

A big thank you to our partners Hoopstars, Putterfingers Golf, Premier Education, East Anglia Youth Rowing and Wymondham High Academy for supporting the delivery of this event.
