Year 7-8 Girls Football

On Thursday 4th November saw girls from year 7-8 from all 8 South Norfolk SSP secondary schools battle it out at Long Stratton Leisure Centre in our very first secondary girls football tounament.

A short briefing regarding the rules, format of the day and most importantly our Spirit of the Games campaign. All teams were ready and eager to go from the outset and it was clear that all teams were well prepared, organised on the pitch and confident.

The tournament consisted of 2 pools with teams playing a group round robin. Teams finishing in the corresponding places then played one final match against each other.

The final was between two strong teams, Hobart Tigers and Wymondham High School Red, who had topped their groups. The final was closely contested with Hobart victorious after extra time and a tight penalty shoot out.

Spirit of the Games Campaign:

This years competition intent was on developing character and life skills. Our aim was to change the focus of the competition and empower young people to develop their understanding of the School Games Values. All teams were tasked with reviewing their opponents on all 6 of the School Games Values they displayed throughout the matches. The winners of the most Spirited Team of the Day was Wymondham High School Blue team.

Congratulations to all players who participated in the tournament, coaches and teachers who helped make the competition go so well and a fun afternoon for all involved.

Special thanks to Long Stratton Leisure Centre for the use of their pitches and facilities. A massive thank you to the leaders from Community Sport Foundation for refereeing, scoring, time keeping and leading the warm ups for school teams.
